The Most Over-Exposed Celebrities of the Moment

Thursday, February 9th, 2012
  1. Katharine McPhee – SMASH
  2. Blake Shelton – The Voice
  3. Kim Kardashian – The Kardashians – E Channel
  4. Jennifer Hudson – Weight Watchers
  5. Jimmy Fallon – Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Stop it already. I need to see a new face and I need to know that networks and Brands get it. I think it is an absolute bore that the promotion of a show or a product comes down to stuffing a handful of celebrities in our face who say next to nothing interesting, on every consumable channel.

I thought Weight Watchers had a great story line with Jennifer Hudson, but it needs to evolve by showcasing other stories inspired by hers. If I see her one more time, on one more cover or singing one more song about the outcomes of being thin, I will jump. Seriously, it’s February. I want to hear stories of struggle and how to overcome the Winter Blues and maybe how an everyday person saw Jennifer and succeeded. Weight Watchers needs to expand the circle of their spokespeople.

For the others, it’s just obvious: there is not enough content to support the rapid deployment of a 24 hour cycle of promotion. And, it gets boring. After the Super Bowl ended, we all talked about were what ads worked and what didn’t. Now maybe we can let these A and B listers take a day off.

Whom I would like to see more of:

  1. Chelsea Handler
  2. Brian Williams
  3. Gayle King
  4. Mark Zuckerberg
  5. The Manning Family

I think networks and Brands have a chance to get more bang for their buck if they trust that consumers can handle more information. The advertisers need to understand that we consumers operate in an omni-channel environment. We have an insatiable desire for more information and variety. To keep our interest, we need more than just a few people with the same old stories.

What is your list of the over-exposed and those whom you want to see more of?
